#4: Subaru Cup - Legacy XC Nordic Mountain ~ Wild Rose, WI
From The Director...
Nordic Mountain welcomes back the Subaru Cup WORS mega event. Last summer, after approximately 300 man hours, the hundred acres on and around the slopes of this small ski area became home to one of the finest cross-country race courses in the Midwest.
Here are just a few of the reviews following last year’s race: “The race course was awesome” Tristan Schoutan; “First impressions were good. After race impressions were great. IMHO, the best mtb course in the WORS series.” Jesse Lalonde; “The course Don & his crew designed for the race was awesome. This was true mountain biking.” Tim Drankus; “stellar singletrack, great in many ways” T.J. Woodruff, “a rad course!” Ron Stawicki; “Awesome race course. Good climbs, downhills, singletrack, flats, dust (elite race), mud, rocks, roots...everything.” Craig Manthe; and “As a spectator for this one, I must say it was very easy to get around and see all the areas of the course.” Jon Holcombe. The Subaru Cup Stage Race/Omnium format returns with it’s unique schedule. Cross-country racing will be on Saturday afternoon starting with the Elites. This will allow more competitors to expand their horizons by giving the Outback Super D and Impreza Short Track a whirl on Sunday. This year’s Stage Race & Omnium offer WORS series points as well ( see WORS Guidelines). The Elite Stage Race portion of the Subaru Cup is again on the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Calendar and the Legacy Cross-Country gives all racers an opportunity to qualify for the 2008 National Championships. Gravity riders will have a full weekend of lift-serviced riding and with upgrades to last year’s course and the addition of some sick new trails. The Nordic Mountain Downhill race will be held on Sunday afternoon. The consumer expo is back along with the NiteRider Poker Run presented by Team Muddy Cup. Mark your calendar, take vacation and make sure you don’t miss the Subaru Cup. All those driving a Subaru to this event will be treated to “Subaru Upfront Parking”.
Course Description
The Legacy Cross-Country course takes it up a notch with a challenging mix of climbs, forested single-track, fast descents, rock gardens, and fast traverses while providing options for racers of all abilities. Racers will pass through the area in front of the lodge several times porviding great spectating.
